Martin Miguel
Martin Miguel est né en 1947 à Nice (France). Il participe
au groupe INterVENTION (1968-1973). Il est cofondateur du groupe 70
(1970).Le sens originel de la pratique artistique de Martin Miguel pourrait être révélé dans l'éclair d'un raccourci biographique : il a eu vingt ans à Nice à la fin des années soixante et son père était peintre en bâtiment. A cette époque, Nice est le lieu d'un formidable mouvement de renouveau artistique, commencé avec les Nouveaux Réalistes, et dont la peinture est le foyer ardent. Miguel va s'y lancer à corps perdu, en compagnie de quatre amis avec lesquels il crée le Groupe 70, dernière génération d'un foisonnement de créateurs qui forme désormais, dans l'histoire de l'art, "l'Ecole de Nice". Parallèle à celui de Support-Surface, autre composante du mouvement niçois, qu'initia le peintre Claude Viallat, le Groupe 70, tout en explorant aussi la matérialité même de la peinture, interroge l'histoire de l'image, la question de la représentation. Martin Miguel, was born on February 14, 1947 in Nice (France). He
takes part in the group INterVENTION (1968-1973). He is cofounder
of group 70 (1970).The original direction of the artistic practice of Martin Miguel could be revealed in the flash of a biographical short cut: he was twenty years old in Nice at the end of the Sixties and his father was a house painter. At that time, Nice was the place of an important moment of artistic revival, starting with the movement, Nouveau Realisme. Miguel creates Group 70, the last generation of a new artistic movement in "the School of Nice". Parallel with that of Support-Surface, another component of the artistic creativity of Nice, an artistic movement started by Claude Viallat, he explores the material of painting, the history of the image and the questions relating to representation.
